Basic Christian Communities

There is a presence of the Basic Christian Communities in the archdiocese. At the 10th biennial congress held in Trinidad in September 2000 it was recognized that there are one hundred and seventy three (173) registered Basic Christian Community groups some of which are in the dioceses of St. George’s in Grenada and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. The biennial assembly provided for the coming together of the members of the various groups and the sharing of their reports on their growth and problems.

One of the parishes in the south, La Brea, has also been cultivating the presence of Basic Christian Communities as a means of meeting the pastoral challenges of that widely spread community. Sr. Paul Clarke who is the pastoral assistant in the parish is the leading person in this area.

Some priests under the banner of the ‘new image of parish’ have tried this method in some of the parishes in the archdiocese. Erin, Toco.
