Father Urban Hudlin is a Dominican priest. The Dominicans are the Order of Preachers founded by Spaniard, Dominic Guizman who later became St Dominic.
Father Hudlin was ordained in Trinidad in 1992 after completing degrees in Philosophy and Theology at universities in Ireland, Puerto Rico and the Regional Seminary of St John Vianney, University of the West Indies in Trinidad.
In that same year he was assigned as associate pastor in the parish of Santa Rosa, Arima, Trinidad where he served for five years. It was during this time that he was appointed Spiritual Moderator of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal a position he held until his resignation in 2004.
He became pastor of the St Philip and St James parish in Chaguanas, Trinidad in 1997. Fr Hudlin accepted the position of Superior of the Dominican Community, Holy Cross Priory, Calvary Hill, Arima, Trinidad in October 1999.
He held the post until January 2003 shortly after which he accepted the position of Episcopal Vicar of Evangelization in the Archdiocese of Port of Spain, Trinidad. Also in 2003 he took up the post of pastor of St Peter’s RC Church, Pointe-a-Pierre, Trinidad. In 2006 along with his continuing duties of parish priest at St Peter’s, he was made parish priest of St Benedict’s RC Church, La Romaine. He is also a part time lecturer at the Regional Seminary.
Father Hudlin founded and is the Spiritual Moderator of the Music Ministry, GRACE (Glorious Rhythms Acclaiming Christ’s Eternal Love). This musical group is active in praise and worship, retreats, missions and workshop and on occasions members accompany Fr Hudlin on various missions at home and abroad. GRACE is affiliated to the Evangelisation Commission.
Father Hudlin has an MA (Masters Degree) from Boston College and continues to pursue studies in areas of pastoral ministry both at Boston College and the Aquinas Institute, St Louis University, Missouri. He has an interest in Management Studies and its implications for the church. It is with this in mind that he follows courses from the University of Scotland Heriot Watt, Masters in Business Administration. Presently he is studying for his Doctorate.
Preaching is Fr Hudlin’s true joy. He has preached and continues to preach throughout the Caribbean, North and Central America, England and Ireland. In 2005 he conducted an Evangelization Retreat on Royal Caribbean’s “Explorer of the Seas’, sailing through the Caribbean.
In 2006 he toured the Holy Land and Egypt as Spiritual Director for a group of pilgrims from Trinidad. In April 2007 he will be on pilgrimage as Spiritual Director visiting the Shrines of France. May 2007 sees him once again conducting an Evangelization Mission on a Royal Caribbean liner: this time “Freedom of the Seas” the largest cruise ship in the world. |
